In a recent development, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has successfully apprehended a political figure, Ambassador Wilfred Bonse, in connection with a significant theft exceeding $246,153 (200 million naira) from the crypto wallet of Patricia Technologies. 

The announcement was made through a comprehensive public statement released by ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the spokesperson for the police agency, shedding light on the intricate details of the case.

Ambassador Wilfred Bonse is alleged to have played a crucial role in assisting hackers in laundering N50 million out of the stolen funds.

The white paper published on the incident attributed the cyberattack to a substantial loss of assets, impacting Patricia Technologies. The company had introduced the Patricia Token, an internal customer holding, as a demonstration of its commitment to credibility and client trust.

The Token , according to Patricia Technologies, is dedicated to compensating holders, promising asset recovery after the security breach. It’s essential to note that the Patricia Token operates as an internal token, representing a debt and is managed by the corporation.

The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, emphasized the National Cyber Crime Center’s (NPF-NCCC) significant strides in investigating this complex financial fraud case reported by Patricia Technologies Limited. 

The case involves allegations of illegal diversion of cash exceeding N200 million, unauthorized modification of computer systems, and network data.

According to the spokesperson, the investigation outlined the details of the theft, conversion of cryptocurrency wallets, and unauthorized fund diversion from Patricia Technologies’ Flutterwave account. 

The plea was directed towards the Inspector General of Police, highlighting the involvement of individuals still at large.

The NPF spokesperson revealed that Ambassador Wilfred Bonse had been arrested for his alleged involvement in the theft, conversion of cryptocurrency wallets, and unauthorized fund diversion from Patricia Technologies. 

The statement detailed the accused’s role in conspiring to launder 50 million naira from the fraudulent diversion of 607 million naira ($747,076) from Patricia Technology’s account to his bank account through a cryptocurrency wallet. The investigation remains ongoing.

Hanu Fejiro, CEO of Patricia Technologies, expressed relief at the conclusion of the police investigation and the subsequent arrest of one of the alleged perpetrators.

 Fejiro highlighted the significance of this development for the firm and its stakeholders, stating, “ This is a big relief, we are delighted that our customers now have more reason to continue to trust us. The dark days are over.”
