The Israeli military carried out airstrikes from the air, ground, and sea throughout the Gaza Strip overnight into Saturday. Air-raid sirens warning of incoming rocket fire were heard in Israeli communities near Gaza.
The military reported that a significant amount of close-quarters combat in its ground assault was taking place in the Shajaiye neighborhood of northern Gaza, which it has labeled as “a terrorist hotbed.”
Israel’s ground invasion, which began in northern Gaza, has progressed southward over the past week. Intensive fighting has spread throughout the area, leading to the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from northern Gaza to the south.
The Gaza Health Ministry, controlled by Hamas, stated that 71 people were killed and 160 wounded arrived for treatment at Al Aqsa hospital in northern Gaza in the past 24 hours. More than 15,000 people have been killed in Gaza since the war began, with another 6,000 missing, according to Gaza health officials.
Concerns of a spillover of violence at Israel’s northern border with Hezbollah have grown as the Israeli military has been exchanging sporadic fire with the Iran-backed Lebanese militia. Additional fire from Lebanon was directed towards northern Israel, and Israel responded by targeting the source of the fire.
