Styles may come and go, however the fashion icon Stan Herman has been an enduring presence in the fashion industry. At 95 years old, Herman has been successfully selling velour loungewear on QVC and is something of a staple on the shopping network, with close to 900,000 units sold since 2017.

In the 1970s, Herman transitioned from women’s clothing to designing uniforms for hotels, businesses, and even airline companies. His memoir, “Uncross Your Legs: A Life in Fashion” which is out this month, chronicles his years of experience in the fashion industry,

Herman has had a rented duplex home in a building in Murray Hill for more than 50 years. When he and appointed decorator changed the apartment’s interior after his partner passed, Herman’s transition and journey as a single man was reflected in the changes.

Herman’s home has a lot to say about his life. The rooms are adorned with many paintings, tennis gear, photos with celebrities, and birthday cards from close friends. Herman has commented that his family, close friends, and home have made his life joyous and fulfilled, and that his father’s fear that he would not have anyone to look after him in his old age was misplaced.
