The man believed to have killed 18 people and injured 13 others in Lewiston, Maine, was discovered dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Friday. The manhunt for Robert R. Card II, 40, ended when his body was found at a recycling center where he had previously worked. The authorities confirmed that the body was found at 7:45 p.m., but did not specify the time of the suspect’s death. The extensive search for Card had caused much anxiety as law enforcement scoured the rural areas of the state. With the suspect no longer a threat, businesses in Lewiston could reopen, and residents could resume their regular activities. The motive behind the shooting is still unknown, and investigators are looking into a recent incident involving Card at a National Guard training facility.
