Every year, Steam releases its ‘Best of Steam’ list for the year, and like every year, there are some obvious choices that are not surprising, and then there are some surprises. It’s that time of year. When Christmas is in the rearview mirror and New Year’s Day is looming, Valve puts out its Best of Steam lists. For 2023, the categories are as follows: Top Sellers (gross revenue), New Releases (gross revenue within two weeks of release), Most Played (peak concurrent players over 40,000), Early Access (gross revenue after version 1.0 releases), Most Played on Steam Deck (daily active players), Most Played with a Controller (daily active players), and the year’s top VR experiences (gross revenue). In each of these categories, the Best of Steam lists view the top 12 titles as ‘Platinum ranked,’ the next 12 as ‘Gold ranked,’ and so on. So below, we have listed the top 12 games in each of the categories for 2023. Surprisingly, EA Sports FC 24 and FIFA 23 are both listed on the top-grossing list in the Gold Category, and they’re two titles in the same series on the 2023 list. It’s also worth mentioning there are many repeat offenders on this year’s list, as Hogwarts Legacy and Baldur’s Gate 3 are present on almost every list.
