During a stop in New Hampshire at a local fair, Vivek Ramaswamy graciously handed the microphone to his wife, Dr. Apoorva Tewari Ramaswamy, when a nurse asked a question about nurse staffing shortages at hospitals. She reassured the nurse and the attentive audience that what nurses need are more compassionate individuals interacting with patients, before explaining how Mr. Ramaswamy had taken her concerns on board.

Dr. Ramaswamy is a Yale-educated surgeon, a dedicated cancer researcher and professor, and a mother of two. She has adjusted to the busy lifestyle of her husband’s campaign, which calls for her to be by his side on the trail while balancing motherhood and providing medical care.

She defended her husband’s controversial statements and policy choices, stating that when it came to vaccination, their roles as professionals and individuals necessitated different decisions. She was taken aback by the backlash from within the Republican Party towards her husband, but she remained staunchly supportive of his political ambitions.

In an effort to soften her husband’s public image, Dr. Ramaswamy has done her part to present a more approachable, compassionate side. She seeks to maintain the life of a devoted working professional amidst the demands of her husband’s candidacy, expressing her commitment to her work in medicine.

Attending a campaign event focused on Dr. Ramaswamy’s perspective, the audience found her to be genuine, down-to-earth, and regrettably relatable, similar to someone they would meet in their daily lives. They commended her for her ability to balance motherhood, her profession, and her husband’s political aspirations. While she has little experience in politics, she has embraced the campaign process and shown great adaptability.

Dr. Ramaswamy is dedicated to her medical practice and her patients, regardless of the outcome of the presidential race. Her intention is to continue treating cancer patients, an act which she regards as her calling, and which she regards as having taught her the value of what is truly important in life.
